Continents planned for 2007: South America and Antarctica.

The Travel Trip Plan 2007: Go to Peru and hike up to Machu Pichu. See the nazca lines from the air, then travel to the Galapagos Islands (may do that in reverse order) which knocks Ecuador off my country list. [Update: did not set off on this adventure yet]

Then visit Argentina, Chile (do some wine tastings at the vineyards) and then pop over to Antarctica. I have two options for this, 1. by flight or 2. by water. I’ll research it some more, but I think I’m leaning towards the ship version just for the adventure of it. Spend a week on a ship, see Antarctica and some penguins and then head back. Then fly up to Brazil to balance out the cold and then fly home, wherever that happens to be at the time. I may be living in British Columbia by then, or in the Cayman Islands. We’ll see.

Cuba 2007: Also, as a second and unrelated trip, I plan on going to Cuba before Castro dies, or at least before they commercialize it after he dies. I’d like to see Cuba in all it’s communist glory spending time with the locals.

Nepal 2008 Traveled to Nepal to climb to Mt Everest Base camp in October of 2008. Spent 2 days in Kathmandu, then flew to Lukla where 16 of us started our trek through the Himalaya’s. Due to delays, had to make up a lot of time and hiked two days worth of hiking in a single day (and then did that twice). Successfully got to Base camp. Afterwords, spent 4 days on the island of Koh Samui Thailand and then flew to Singapore for a week. After Spending a few days with my sister in Singapore, next stop was Kuala Lumpur Malaysia where we climbed to the observation bridge of the Petronas Towers.

6 Month Travel the US and Canada by RV 2009-2010: My wife and I packed up, rented out the house and took off in our RV with our 2 cats for 6 months to drive through the US and Canada. We put on 17,000+ miles and took over 17,000 photographs. The entire trip is chronicled on our RV Travel Blog called Young Snowbirds. We went straight south, through Phoenix to Texas, then across the top of the gulf to Florida and then up the east coast into the Canadian Maritimes. Then back through the US under the great lakes and into Canada.

Spain, Morocco, France and Andorra 2011: Ten days in Spain with a side excursion to cross off one of the items on my life list (travel by boat across the Straight of Gibraltar). Planning on seeing Salvador Dali’s house, popping into France, then driving back through Andorra. A day or two of wine tasting with friends and some basic sight seeing.

Update: managed to squeeze in Gibraltar too. Was at the top if the Rock of Gibraltar for sunrise. Brilliant!

Peru 2011: on a completely different note, we’ll be selling our house and RV and moving to Peru to build an Earthship. First a 6 month stint living in an apartment (probably in Cuzco) while we look for land. Then come back, get a few things and start building. That project will be blogged about on our Canadians Living in Peru blog.

I’m going to guess that a few of the entries after this involve South America, but I’m still wanting to get to Ireland, Scotland and England. And of course Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania.
